When Letters Aren't Letters At All: Creative Typography

I know that in some parts of the world there are currently water shortages, but where I am it's rain, rain, and more rain. As I say at the end of this week's featured article, if the saying April Showers Bring May Flowers holds true, we should be able to supply every florist in town with a full inventory (of wildflowers, at least) next month.

Use Objects Not Letters in Your Type Projects
Some letters are easy to replace with shapes or objects. Throw in a baseball or a Frisbee for the letter O. But what shape can stand in easily for K? If you catch a lot of the special Google artwork you'll see plenty of examples of shape and object substitutions for G, o, l, and e. Generally speaking though, you'll probably only want to do one or two substitutions at a time in your typographic compositions.
